Today
we learned about fossil fuels. Students read an article about the types of
fossil fuels and how we depend on them. They also learned how fossil
fuels are harmful to the Earth. To further understand this concept, students
went digging for fossil fuels. Instead of digging in the ground, they dug
in cookies. Raisins, chocolate chips, and M&Ms represented the
fossil fuels that students had to dig out of their cookies. Students learned
that not only is using fossil fuels harmful to the environment, but
digging is also harmful.

Science tools
This year we will be using many
scientific tools to make observations and to conduct different types of
experiments. On Wednesday the students were given an opportunity to try out some of
these tools. They used scales, microscopes, computers, graduated
cylinders, magnifying glasses, and many others to complete different
activities. The students had a lot of fun and learned about science too!
