Students published their first piece of writing this week. They worked through the writing process by planning, drafting, editing (again, and again, and again), and finally typing up their personal narratives using Google Docs. To celebrate their hard work, we had a party where students shared their narratives with a few friends. Popsicles may have been included as well.

Book Buddies
Every Friday we go to Ms. Berger's room to visit our first grade book buddies. The students are responsible for selecting books from the library that they think their book buddies will enjoy. They then read these books to their book buddies. This is a great way for the fourth graders to work on their reading fluency and a great way for the first graders to practice their listening and reading comprehension skills.

Fiction or Nonfiction?
In
reader's workshop we discussed the differences between fiction and
nonfiction. We then made a T-chart to list the different features of
fiction and nonfiction. Students then searched through Scholastic Book
Orders to find examples of both fiction and nonfiction books to cut out and
glue onto an additional T-chart.

Cup Stacking...The Hard Way
For
this activity, each
group was given a rubber band with strings attached and cups. The groups then had to
work together to use the rubber bands to pick up and stack the cups into a pyramid. The purpose of
this activity was to have fun, but also to see how well the students could
work together. The hardest part was having to resist the urge to knock the cups over once the tower was built.
